San Francisco Zoo and Ocean Beach | San Francisco,...
Yesterday my friend and I visited the San Francisco Zoo to mess around with our cameras. This is probably the first time I’ve gone to the zoo ever since I’ve taken up photography on a more serious level, and I’m happy with how some of my shots turned out although I don’t think I’m much of an animal-type of photographer that is unless I’m shooting homo-sapiens....

Northwest Roadtrip | Tacoma, Oregon.
Last year we went on a week long Northwest Roadtrip, and made several stops along the way until we reached Seattle, Washington. And then we drove back to San Francisco, California along the beautiful Oregon coastline. My photos are long overdue, but I thought … better late than never! This shot was taken at the Bridal Veil Falls, but the trek back up with all my camera gear and a tripod...

Travis | San Francisco, California.
I did Travis’ photoshoot the same day I did Tanya’s. Quit stylish for a guy, huh? My only regret is that I wish I took more pictures of him. It’s hard doing two individual photoshoots at the same time. Here are the results.

Tanya | San Francisco, California.
Today I did a photoshoot for my cousin, Tanya. We ended up in the industrial areas around 3rd and Army, the unofficial skate park, after much driving. We wanted a spot that wasn’t populated by people, and, of course, something with nice texture! It was a bit sunny out so we had to deal. I dislike the harsh contrast the sun can create sometimes, but the good thing is that I’m definitely...

de Young Cafe Photoshoot | San Francisco, CA.
I was given the opportunity to expand my photography skills when I was thrown into the project to do some food photography shots at the de Young Cafe. Sure, why not? It doesn’t hurt to try! I’m sorting through the photos right now, but here’s one I’ve edited thus far. I’m not sure if they’ll go for it because it has more of a soft, vintage feel to it. I’ll...

de Young Museum Store Products | San Francisco,...
These photos are going onto a spread in the Fine Arts Magazine in regards to the Birth of Impressionism store products. Anyhow, before this shoot, I was pretty nervous since I have no experience in product photography at all, and I have never used a studio either. Sometimes you just need to get thrown into the jungle to survive. Hardy har har. The challenges I face when editing these photos is...

Product Photography.
What do I know about product photography? Not much. I got assigned a product photography photoshoot at work so I’ve been reading up on it to ease my nervousness. This isn’t exactly my expertise, but people say the best way to learn is to get thrown into it and to get hands on experience. I’ve watched about 20 tutorials or so on the subject, read some articles, but I found the...

Behind the scenes at the de Young | San Francisco,...
Today was the first time I got to go into the conservation studio; I had no idea what that was. Ha. And then when I found out what it was, I was psyched. In fact, I was amazed. Here’s the story! This is my coworker and I messing around while I take some test shots. She’s thinking REALLY hard on how we can fix this ancient sculpture. We have no idea, but she looked like she was deep in...

Addicted to thesixtyone.com! →
Michael H. linked me to this. It’s such a great find. I’m addicted. My new resource to finding some great beats! If you like indie music as much as I do, you’ll love this site. Yes, I know. This has nothing to do with photography, but on a design-related note, I love how the site is set-up. So far, I like: Blue Skies-Kim Divine Rain-Priscilla Ahn

This sums up my Los Angeles trip. I miss my friends already. And I miss everyone that was in Los Angeles and is not in the photo below. More pictures to come. :)

Annie at the Conservatory of Flowers | San...
This is my second photoshoot for my friend, Miss Annie, and this time around we decided to try a new direction; we aimed for a series of more fun and cute photos to better portray her personality. And I think it worked out well. Click here to view the photos from her first photoshoot. We found some areas in front of the Conservatory of Flowers that offered great picture opportunities for us. So...

Cartier and America at the Legion of Honor, San...
Last night my friends and I attended ArtPoint’s Cartier and America Gala event at the Legion of Honor. We captured some pre-party photos courtesy of me, and then we headed to the main event. There wasn’t as much food as compared to the past museum events I had attended, but it was fun nevertheless! And it’s always fun checking out what everyone else was wearing; everyone went...

Kroeun at Golden Gate Park | San Francisco,...
My friend Kroeun wanted a mini photo session before he chopped off his hair! He said goodbye to his long hair! On a side note, that is also what I did with mine. Very dramatic; very sad, but must get used to the new do. Anyhow, we went around Golden Gate Park (I really need to venture out and discover new places to shoot! Any photographers out there that would like to go shooting?) and found new...

Happy New Year.
I’m a few days late, but I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year! It’s 2010. Shouldn’t we be living life like the Jetsons by now? I guess not! In short, I spent my new years with my friends. We dined at Le Charm French Bistro, and it was delicious; I’m glad we didn’t get mugged walking from the restaurant to the W Hotel. The party was sold out and packed. Was it...

Glacier Lights | San Jose, California.
Last week when I went back home, I stopped by the Glacier Lights. My coworker had linked me to this site, and I thought it was so amazing. Who doesn’t enjoy excessive holiday lights that are synchronized to music? If you wish to visit the two houses before the year ends, it’s at 1401 and 1405 Glacier Drive! Here’s a photo I took below. I wish I brought my tripod for this! Watch...

FXCM Company Holiday Party | San Francisco, CA.
Saturday I photographed the FXCM Company Holiday Party. And yes, I don’t mind being on a yacht for 3-3.5 hours. Not too shabby. Everyone was having such a great time. The lower deck was the dining area and open bar and the upper deck was the dance area. And for those willing to risk the cold, there was a great view of the cityscape on the deck! I had a fantastic time photographing this...

Legion of Honor | San Francisco, California.
Two weeks ago, I went to the Legion of Honor to take some interior and exterior shots, and I had a photo assistant this time! I was aiming for more detailed photos which isn’t exactly my style because I love my wide angle lens; however, why not try something new?  The mistake I made—visiting the museum on the Members’ Preview for Cartier. It was packed. I nearly killed an...

de Young Museum | San Francisco, California.
This morning I went around the de Young Museum to take some photos. I didn’t get a chance to invest the amount of time I wanted to into these photos, but I’ll meander around tomorrow for a few hours and get the shots that I have planned out. In the meantime, I’d like to share a few from my petite batch. I’m trying to capture a more “artsy” and...

Dec 10-13 | Seattle, Washington.
Two weekends ago I visited Seattle. I had visited Seattle a few times in the past, but I’ve never stayed in downtown and walked everywhere. It was a fun trip, and I have determined that places that have snow are more festive! I love it. We stayed at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown; great location by the way. On our first day, we visited the Pike Place Market and shared a crumpet and had some...

ACADEMY OF SCIENCES | SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
A few weeks ago I visited the Academy of Sciences just for the mere purpose of testing out the new camera I purchased (Canon 50D). I finally got a chance to take it out for a test drive since my friends were teasing me about how I could possibly have a new “ferrari” at home and not test drive it the second I got it. How do I like my new dslr? I love it! Although my XT and I have been...

Camille and Adam | San Francisco, CA.
Today I had the wonderful opportunity of shooting my friend’s engagement shots. These two lovebirds have been dating since high school, and are finally tying the knot next summer! Originally we had scheduled the engagement shoot at 10am, but it got postponed due to the weather. We certainly did not predict light showers in the forecast! Around noon time, we finally attempted the shoot, and...

Jack | San Jose, CA.
Jack and I have been friends for almost a decade now; he’s one of my really good friends, and although he resides in Southern California, we still manage to almost talk everyday. He jokes about how I rarely ever call him (this is a fact), and how he always has to call me (everyday). Sometimes I wonder how we still have so much to talk about even after several years, but it just is. I tell...

I worked on the exhibition graphics for the Education Gallery that is part of the John Baldessari exhibition (which is not up anymore because Cartier is coming!) at the Legion of Honor. I assisted with the education team and the senior exhibition designer in laying out the photo mural and graphics in this petite gallery. On a side note, I also designed the various colorful magnets on the wall! ...

Art and Power at the de Young | San Francisco, CA.
Below are photos I took of the de Young Museum’s (traveling) exhibition, Art and Power in the Central African Savanna. Exhibition graphics by Juliana Pennington. Photo murals post-processed by me. Don’t go visiting the museum now expecting to see this because it already closed October 11; however, there is an Amish Abstractions: Quilts from the Collection of Faith and Stephen Brown...

Christine | San Francisco, CA.
Christine and I went around Hayes Valley to find some nice spots to take some portraits. We went to the park, sat in front of people’s homes, etc. We even went to this alley way where I swear I smelled pee. Not a good thing!

KING TUT AT THE DE YOUNG | SAN FRANCISCO, CA.
This is probably one of the most challenging shoots I have ever done. The King Tut exhibition had low lighting, dark walls, and I didn’t have the proper lighting equipment, but I did what I could.  The image below was a spread I did for the Fall issue of the Fine Arts Magazine of San Francisco. It’s a combination of 3 frames, and I’m pretty proud with the result. In honor of...

Annie | San Francisco, CA.
Before Annie moved to New York to pursue her acting career, she wanted some headshots/portraits. We went to the Golden Gate Park in search for some nice backdrops and interesting texture. I think she sorta resembles Jessica Lowndes from the new cast of 90210!

Rita and Sean Visits | San Francisco, CA.
After their vacation from Japan, they had a layover in San Francisco before they headed back to Vancouver. We only had two hours so we dined at Burma Superstar and then quickly toured the city. And of course, we stopped at Kara’s Cupcakes. Come back and visit soon because two hours in San Francisco won’t suffice!

Les Savy Fav | San Francisco, CA.
A few months ago I went to see Les Savy Fav’s performance. This is probably the craziest small venue performance I’ve been to ever. I don’t think I’ll ever go see another “screamo” band; however, I did manage to get some interesting shots from the evening even though I was standing somewhat far from the stage. I definitely didn’t want to get stuck in the...

Jonas | San Francisco, CA.
Jonas asked me to do a shoot of him late one Friday evening, and I thought … why not! He wanted something “different” and “unique”, and if you know Jonas like I do, this isn’t an unusual request. We walked around the Fisherman’s Wharf area to find spots to shoot at. There weren’t many tourists around since it was inching towards midnight, and I...

Helen and Deric | Pacifica, California.
Yesterday afternoon, the lovely couple and I meandered to Pacifica for their engagement photoshoot. The weather was not cooperating, but we made the best of it! They are a relatively easy couple to shoot since they are easy-going and humorous. Their quirkiness is transparent throughout some of their photos, as well as, their love and connection for each other. I can’t wait for their wedding...
